Where's Khadija?

I thought I saw myself today
In the mirror on the wall
As I walked away

I thought I heard myself today
When I laughed till I cried
But my tears were grey

I thought I sensed myself today
In a dream I had
About yesterday

I thought I knew myself today
When I said something
That I used to say

I almost found myself today
So maybe tomorrow
If not today

This is beautiful. It reminds me of a poem I like a lot called 'Mad Girl's Love Song' by Sylvia Plath- I think I've shown it to you before. The same despair and disembodied emotion. The difference is yours ends on a faint but hopeful note of optimism. Which is a good thing:)

I wrote it the day after our long phone conversation early this week. The first line floated into my head (which is how a lot of my poems come into being) the next morning while I was in the women's restroom at work. I should dedicate this poem to you because that day I was feeling like you and I were one consciousness. If one person could have both our experiences, this would be her poem.
